Will of Elisha McBride ~ 1803

NC Archives In the name of God Amen. I Elisha McBride of the County of Camden and State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be God do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament this March twentieh eight Anno Domine Eighteen hundred and three. First, I leave to my beloved wife Elizabeth McBride during her natural live one third of my land and plantation whereon I now live with the buildings and improvements, thereon, also the third of my other plantation if the she needs it but not the improvements with liberty to cut timber on any of my lands or Swamp for the use of the said thirds and fire wood and for timber for building and repairing houses. Also I leave my said wife the use of two negroes her choice during her life. Also one horse her choice, one cart and Harness one chair (riding) & Harness, one feather bed and furniture her choice, two cows & calves, five Ewes and Lambs one half my Hoggs, all my Beef, all my fowls all my geese, and all my corn on hand, all my wheat & flax wool & thread of every sort all my Hoggs Lard, all my coffee & sugar and every thing that is on hand which may be called food and raiment for herself and children which may live with her, Also, I leave to my said wife fifty dollars worth of articles such as she may want for Housekeeping to be valued by two neighbors freeholders as cash price, also one hunting saddle Secondly I give and bequeath unto my Son Joseph McBride the land and plantation I bought of Asa Kelley containing sixty acres more or less to hold it according to the deed I have of said Kelley and the bounds therein set forth, Also part of my fathers old plantation and land which I hold by deed from John Pearce as far as James Pearce line and binding his land to John McBrides old line near the main road to hold it by the deed I have from John Pearce containing sixty six acres (by estimation). Also one half of Cypress Swamp that lays opposite of my mannor plantation and so on to The old Mile Dam to be divided according to the quallity or real value, having respect to the Cypress timber, also one negroe boy Demsey, also one bed and furniture one cow and calf, and what other small articles we may have already given him, to him and his heirs and assigns forever Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my son James McBride my mannor Plantation with the land belonging to it, also one half of my Cypress Swamp which joins said lands to be divided according to the quallity or real value thereof having respect to the Cypress Timber therein, also one negro boy called Aaron. One feather bead and furniture to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Pearce one negro woman and her children Shinia and Tom with all their increase together with all the stock and other property I have already given them to her and her heirs & assigns forever. Also I give and bequeath to my said daughter Sally Pearce a piece of land containing about sixteen acres which I had of John Pearce and lyeth on the Easte side of the Great Canal to her and her heirs and assigns forever. Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my young son Peter McBride, the remaining part of my land and swamp (viz) One piece known by the name of Maple Ponds which I brought of Harvid? Haley and since I have patent anew to hold it as fare as the great Canal containing one hundred acres to hold it by my new patent and the bounds therein set forth. Also the land over the great Canal which I bought of Sarah Haley and hold it by two deeds from said Sarah Haley (which I have sold excepted) also a small corner of my new patented land which lies over the canal, also one ?likely? negro boy, also one feather bed and furniture also fifty dollars to be raised out of my Estate, also a piece of Cypress Swamp which I bought of Thomas Rhodes Jun. to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Also I give and bequeath to my sone Peter Seventeen and a half acres of land which I bought of William Jones to him & his heirs forever. Sixthly, I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my negroes which has not already been given in this will with all my estate which has not been given both within door and without of every kind to be equally divided between and amongst my three daughters viz. Polly McBride, Betsy McBride & Nancy McBride to them their heirs & assigns forever. Seventhly It is my will and desire and it is hereby ordained and ordered that if either of my three youngest daughters shall decease or die without having lawfull issue or lawfull heirs or lawful heirs of their body, the living and surviving to have and enjoy the equally the estate of the deceased Eighthly and Lastly, I nominate and appoint, make and Ordain my Son in Law James Pearce and my son Joseph McBride Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said Elisha McBride have to this my Last Will and Testament set my hand & Seal Signed sealed published and Elisha McBride (Seal) declared by the Testator in the presence of us Joseph Jones William Jones Camden County Court May Term 1803 The forgoing was exhibited in Open Court and p??
